Voting Systems Integrity
Voting Systems Options
Voting Systems options have expanded quite a bit since the election of two thousand when Albert Gore and George W. Bush had a split in the vote that literally came down to hundreds of votes and most of those were focused in Broward and Dade counties in the state of Florida. The voting system the state of Florida used was the old fashioned punch cards that were coded with ballot. After several weeks of ballot counting and trying to decipher voter intent and looking at hanging chads the courts made decisions and ultimately George W. Bush won the election. People on both sides were so fired up that they started looking for new voting systems options.
Of course the voting systems have had problems long before the elections in Florida. The voting systems of Chicago were famous when it involved poll workers loading ballots into their cars and some of them never showed up to be counted and some precincts had more ballots then they had people.
Now with the modern crisis there has been an introduction of several new forms of electronic voting. Laws were passed forcing most states to have all their districts equipped with electronic voting systems by the end of the decade. However the rash of new voting systems didn’t eliminate the problems many voters are afraid that without a paper ballot the new voting systems will just delete their vote. In fact movies and television shows have portrayed just such an event, where the voting systems decided the outcome of the election by moving votes around.
Voting Systems Security
I am not sure there is an answer to voting systems security. When ever people and politicians are involved there will be motivations of greed and power that will cause corruption and the end result will be a manipulation of the voting systems in an effort to have a political impact for which ever side can gain access to the voting systems.
